What is the basis for this recommendation? Mangano et. al. in the Effect of atenolol on mortality and cardiovascular morbidity after noncardiac surgery. N Engl J Med 1997 did a prospective, randomized, double blinded, placebo-controlled clinical trial in 200 patients They did H&P, ECG's, Holter monitoring, CPK with MB, hemodynamics, and then looked to see what happened.
