Beta Blockers or Autonomic Freedom?

BBAC blocks the autonomic nervous system response to the stress of surgery. Beta blockers block the end organ effect of catecholamines. Clonidine blocks the central release of epinephrine and norepinephrine.

Do we want the heart to be running free and wild with tachycardia, myocardial ischemia, and the risks of infarction or death? Or do we want to block the stress of surgery and reduce the risks?
