American College of Cardiology & American Heart Association Recommendations

What does the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and American Heart Association (AHA) say about BBAC? First of all, the ACC and AHA don't call it BBAC. They call it Perioperative Beta Blockade. Secondly, the ACC and AHA have a slightly more limited inclusion criteria for perioperative beta blockers than we are suggesting.

The indications for therapies are divided up into classes by the level of evidence supporting them at the time of the report:

bullet Class I: Conditions for which there is evidence and/or general agreement that a given procedure/therapy is useful and effective.
bullet

Class II: Conditions for which there is conflicting evidence and/or a divergence of opinion about the usefulness/efficacy of performing the procedure/therapy.

  • Class IIa: Weight of evidence/opinion is in favor of usefulness/ efficacy.
  • Class IIb: Usefulness/efficacy is less well established by evidence/ opinion
bullet Class III: Conditions for which there is evidence and/or general agreement that a procedure/therapy is not useful/effective and in some cases may be harmful.
